(Note: Up until this point in time, I have been posting woodworking topics in a blog attached to a popular woodworking forum website. A few years back the website changed their format, making full access to that blog very difficult to find and navigate.
For that very reason, I haven't posted anything there in the past couple of years. From this day forward, all new woodworking posts will be published here on Eddie's Random Ramblings, interspersed among all the other...randomness.)
Several years back, I performed my 'Grandfather-ly' duties by building a rather elaborate 'Fire Station' bunkbed for my two oldest grandkiddos.
Here is a pic...
All of the upper railings are dowel-joint construction.
Each and every brick is hand-painted!
It was quite the labor-of-love....
After the kids outgrew this bed, it was given to the next grandkid in line, who is now six years old and lives in Texas.
This particular young'un possesses a keen interest in space and the planets.
His mom gave me a call recently to see if I would mind if they re-painted the bunk bed to depict a space theme.
What??? Paint over all those painstakingly-rendered bricks???
As it turned out, my wife and I visited this part of the family this past January.
I ended up helping my son-in-law paint the entire bed in slate black.
Space.....
The unit then got re-assembled in the youngster's bedroom.
My next task here at home in the comfort of my Colorado workshop is to build some plywood cutouts of all the planets of the solar system which will later be attached to the bed.
The next several posts here on the blog will follow that process.
Stay tuned...
