Acoustic-Electric Guitars in the Arsenal

Over the past few years, I have had many occasions to play acoustic guitar either at church or in many of the other venues in which I have played.

I found that there was a definite need to be able to plug into an amplifier or house sound system to be heard in the mix with other instruments.

This new venture began with the acquisition of an Ibanez model AEG20E guitar.

Being a rather thin body guitar, the sound doesn't project as well as other acoustic models I have played, but it sounds really great plugged in.

A couple of years ago, my former workplace manager, who is a guitar collector, vintage amp restorer, and luthier, offered a great deal on this:

It's an Ovation model Elite 6778LX. I absolutely fell in love with it the first time I picked it up and played it. It is one of the last American-made models produced by Ovation before they moved their general operations overseas back in the 90s.

Of course, since these guitars benefit from being amped, I had to find a suitable one. This Behringer Ultracoustic ACX450 acoustic 45 watt amp fills the bill nicely.

Rock on !!

An Awesome Colorado Sunrise !

Here on the Front Range of Colorado, we are often blessed with beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

This morning, the sunrise was even more spectacular because of the presence of brightly lit cloud formations in all directions of the compass.  The entire sky was filled with hues ranging from pinkish orange to purple, blue, and gray:

My First Electric Guitar

In the early 2000s, I decided to try my hand at learning to play electric guitar.

Since I was new to the instrument, I chose to go with a less expensive model of guitar.

A trip to the local Guitar Center store netted me a Fender Squier Bullet Strat along with a small Line6 Spyder modeling amplifier.

All for the princely sum of  $200.

With this combo, I began learning the nuances of playing electric and getting my chops up.

Even though the guitar is a low end model, it has served its purpose well.  I have played it many times in church as part of worship bands, and it has been a frequently used guitar in open mic sessions and music sets at local nursing homes. I have upgraded it with newer, quality tuning machines, and equipped it with Fender bullet strings, along with having it precisely setup for great action and intonation, as well as having the frets dressed.

A very serviceable Strat, indeed!

Even though I have since acquired a higher end American-made Strat, I still often pull out the ol' Bullet and give it a go.

A Little Bit Of 'Tuesday Morning' at Home

This past month, my wife and I learned that the Tuesday Morning company had gone into bankruptcy and was set to close all of its Colorado s...
